City Year and our partners work to advance academic outcomes for all students and develop the next generation of leaders through national service.
In collaboration with classroom teachers, principals and schools, trained teams of City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches (SSCs). Student Success Coaches are tutors, mentors and role models who support students academically and help them develop durable skills, behaviors and resiliency that leads to greater academic success, increased graduation rates, and reduced absenteeism. City Year DC SSCs help cultivate positive learning environments where students can build on their strengths, fully engage in their learning, and graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary and career success.
Outside of the classroom, City Year DC AmeriCorps members participate in their own year of growth, through hands-on experience and a coaching-first model. These young people, many of whom are from the very schools and communities we serve, spend a year building their workforce readiness skills, fostering pathways to greater success and higher economic mobility in college and future careers.
