In collaboration with classroom teachers, principals and schools, trained teams of City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches (SSCs). Student success coaches are tutors, mentors and role models who support students academically and and help them develop durable skills, such as creative problem solving, teamwork, flexibility and communication. These interpersonal and workforce readiness skills foster success in school, college, career and life.

SSCs help cultivate positive learning environments where students can build on their strengths, fully engage in their learning, and graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary and career success.
